Satellite TV : A New Way to Watch Television

These days we are all familiar with the traditional methods of watching TV, but there is now a new option that can provide an improved quality of service, a greater range of channels and the same reliability as cable. This new option is satellite TV. To make it even more appealing, more often than not this new service will cost the same as, or a little bit less, than your cable provider.

In the same way that cable TV offered a step up from free-to-air TV, with many more channel options, satellite TV has moved one step further forward. This system not only comes without a reliance on an ageing cable network, but also provides improved audio and visual quality.

Your favourite programmes are transmitted up to a highly advanced satellite network orbiting the earth and then beamed back down to a discreet dish on the side of your house. All this happens in the blink of an eye without any lag in the signal and provides you with hundreds of channels at your fingertips.

This improvement in quality and space-age equipment does not even come at a greatly increased price. Most satellite providers will offer packages that are the same price if not cheaper than your cable provider.

Following the European model pioneered by BSkyB and others, there are now two major satellite providers in the US – Dish Network and DirectTV. Both companies offer a good service and differ mostly in the variety of channel packages that they provide. Dish Network currently offers 340 channels in total, against DirecTV’s 240.

If you are planning to switch to this new service that promises to be the way of the future, there has never been a better opportunity. A competitive marketplace means that providers are fighting to sign up new customers. This means that you can enjoy high-quality entertainment from all over the world sent through satellite signals for incredibly low prices. Companies are so keen to get hold of your custom that they will offer you the digital box receiver, satellite dish and installation for free on the promise of an extended contract. This provides added value when you sign up.

Satellite providers bundle their channels together either by number or by genre. This way sports fans can use their new dish to access the biggest sporting events and movie enthusiasts can watch the latest films as and when they please.

The only issue that you have to be absolutely certain of before you sign up to a long-term contract is whether or not you can receive the satellite signal. Fortunately, both companies boast more than 90 per cent coverage throughout the country, meaning that the vast majority of the population can access these services with no trouble at all.

Ultimately, making the shift to satellite television is a personal decision that depends on what you are looking for from your television service. Advocates of satellite claim that it can bring many rewards, including crystal-clear digital reception, hundreds of channels and enriched video and audio. Added benefits include content on demand, record functions and everything else you would expect from a modern TV experience. Satellite signals from either DirecTV or Dish Network do not have to travel down wires through multiple networks and for this reason does not degrade in quality.
